Entry from: Reykjavík, Iceland Entry Title: “Return to Iceland” Entry: “Thursday, August 14, 2008 Return to Iceland Dear Readers: We have a free morning to do as we wish, as our return flight to Iceland leaves at 2pm. I walk back into the village for more photos and to try to meet some of the locals. I splurge and purchase a mask for my collection at the shop run by the Icelanders. I hang around and talk with the shopkeeper for quite a while, and it is interesting to watch the local people come in and drop off a new carving they have made and receive money for their work. There is a real alcohol problem, and hard liquor is illegal. She shows me photos of all the best local artists, and says they could become really famous if they applied themselves to their craft. Unfortunately, many will only work when they need some extra money to purchase more beer or wine. I walk up to the tiny church, and have a fun conversation with a couple of men who are filling holes on the dirt road. There are tons of sled dogs around, and every so often something will happen to set them all howling. I return to the hotel in time for lunch and our departure to the airport. It has been a very expensive visit, but I think the general consensus of the group is that we were very lucky with the weather, and that the experience …

Preview of Meghanwithanh’s blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Hella, Iceland Entry Title: “Water going up, water going down…” Entry: “…and wind blowing every which way. We arrived in Reykjavik before the sun was up, and drove our rental car away from the airport toward sunrise-pink, snow-capped peaks. Our first stop was þingvellir national park, the gorgeous site where Iceland’s original parliament was founded. The park boasts a large lake that, apparently, people can snorkel in year-round, though the temperatures in the low thirties didn’t exactly make me want to throw on my bathing suit. We settled instead for exploring the grounds–we had the place entirely to ourselves for the first hour or so (landing at 6 in the morning has its benefits afterall). The scenery was indescribably beautiful, and we discovered our first of what is sure to be many icy waterfalls. From there we took in stunning sights around every turn in the road, and made stops at Geysir, Gulfoss, and the still-active Hekla volcano. It felt like at least a week’s worth of vacation crammed into a single day, and hopefully the pictures speak for themselves.” Read and see more at: www.travelpod.com Photos from this trip: 1. “þingvellir” 2. “Geysir” 3. “On the road” 4. “Gulfoss” 5. “Driving” 6. “Scenery from the road” 7. “The majestic Hekla” 8. “Sheep!” See this TripWow and …
