Entry from: Reykjavík, Iceland Entry Title: “Day 3: Day Trip from Reykjav” Entry: “Day 3: A Day Trip from Reykjavík: The Golden Circle: July 7, 2010 Everyone was awakened at 7:00 and the cooks prepared our first breakfast. The older crowd was up and ready to chow down but the students gradually filtered through for the next hour and a half. Once everyone was finished and the dishes were done we packed our day packs and waited for the bus. When it arrived, we loaded up. Our driver spoke little English and I never really did catch his name. The day was overcast and windy. Quite a bit of rain had fallen during the night. We headed east out of the city to Nesjavellir, a large geothermal power station just south of Þingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest lake. The lake sits in the midocean rift and is an ideal place for geothermal resources. The plant provides power for Reykjavík and also ships hot water to the city, via a pipeline, for space heating. They have an excellent guided tour and numerous informative displays, as well as windows overlooking the turbines. I showed some people the place where the building is cracking due to the rifting activity; a guide pointed it out to me the last time I was there. We reboarded the bus and headed north to Þingvellir, the site of the world’s first Parliament, in 930

Entry from: Reykjavik, Iceland Entry Title: “Day One” Entry: “I have been up for nearly 12 hours now and fading fast!! I was up at 415 to catch my plane at 730 no problem there, managed to check in last night before meeting Ted for a couple of serberts ö very nice too. The flight left about 30 min late, but we were only 15 min late to arrive. Journey was good – I didn´t eat the breakfast roll as surprisingly I didn’t´like it, so I got three lots of fruit instead – heathy me. The hotel is OK, my room is a deluxe so I have a reasonable amount of space to move around, a separate dressing area – well you can´t see the wardrobe from the bed anyway, a flat screen TV on the wall. Disappointingly tea is out of a plastic cup – and no milk so it´sa good job I can drink black tea. The journey from the airport was amazing, the landscape is rugged and reminded me a bit of connemarra, but no trees – very strange. There are also piles of rocks dotted about in to the shapes of people, so from a distance it looks like there a small groups of people on the horizon! Talking of horizons for quite a while on each horizon I looked at were mountains – very good. I have wandered around part of Rejayvik and it is very chilled and laid back – not like our capital city. Everyone seems to look relaxed and they don´t rush about

Very bizarre view of Iceland. A little on the goofy side but give me a break…all I have to work with is a camera, myself and my demented mind.
